Knowing About The Flsa Laws

By Tracie Knight

If one is going to enter the workforce, it is extremely crucial that he knows his rights as a worker so that he will be sure that he will get the right amount of salary from his employers. Now the set of laws that would protect workers from any unfair compensations or wages would be the Fair Labor Standard Act or flsa laws. Now if one is going to be an employee, then it is important that he knows some of the laws here so that he will know what his rights are.

Now if one would want to know how this act came into place, it was first proposed by the Senator Hugo Black. He proposed this bill in the year nineteen thirty two but it was not approved right away because many did not approve of the thirty hour per week law. Eventually, they passed the bill but made some revisions to it.

Now the basic parts of the law would include the implementation of the minimum wage. According to the law, employers must give their workers at least minimum wage with nothing below that as a regular wage and if they work overtime, then they must also be compensated for that. The overtime pay is one and a half times the regular wage that the worker gets.

Also included in the set of laws would be the law that requires equal pay for everyone whether they are men or women. This law simply states that there will be no gender discrimination when it comes to payment which means that all sexes will earn equally. It is illegal to pay a certain gender more than the other genders simply because they are a particular gender.

Now there is also a law that would protect underage employees from jobs that they cannot do. This act states that only children who are physically and mentally capable may work and that children under eighteen cannot do very dangerous jobs. Now there is also a clause that states that children under sixteen cannot work during school hours.

Of course there are also the clauses that would protect the ones who are older as well. Now if a company has more than twenty employees, then employers must also consider hiring workers who are forty years old and above. The only thing that the law requires is that the worker is physically able and also mentally able.

Now it is very common to see farmers or agricultural workers have wages that are lower than the minimum. Now this law would offer special protection for those who are in this sector. As long as they would register with the US Department of Labor, they are protected by this law.

Of course these are only some of the laws that would be present in this set. Because of many cases of unfair compensation, the government decided that it must protect its workers so that the workers will get the correct amount of wages that they actually worked so hard for. It is for this reason that this set of laws were made.
