Why You Should Install A Commercial Fire Alarm

By Mark Mahaffey

If you own your own business and have fire insurance, you may think that recovering from a fire will not be difficult. As far as replacing physical items, you may be right. Office equipment is not hard to rebuy. However, the mental and emotional stress of recovering from a fire is another matter altogether and harder to recover from.

In order to keep yourself as safe as possible from fire, you should try to find out about the fire as soon as you can after it breaks out. The first five minutes of a fire are the most important as far as being able to contain it before it does too much damage and blazes out of control. Therefore, you should identify the best way to be alerted to a fire as early as possible.

That is why your fire system should be equipped with parts that will detect a fire quickly and efficiently. Detecting the presence of fire early may save your life! A smart way to do this is to install heat detectors. These appliances have components inside them that will let you know when the temperature inside your building has increased to a certain extent.

Smoke detectors are another important part of a smart fire alarm system for your business. Smoke detectors come in three main types: ionization, photoelectric and combination. Ionization smoke detectors are better at detecting big fires whereas photoelectric are more proficient at detecting smaller, slow burning fires.

However, you can also buy a combination smoke detector. This is what you should get if you want to be protected from both fast burning and slow smoldering fires. Regardless of the kind of detector you buy, be sure to take care of it with regular maintenance.

Fire alarm system components that are not maintained will not function correctly. And if they do not function correctly, they will not be able to alert you if a fire breaks out. Be sure to keep fresh batteries in them on a regular schedule.
