Indiana Arrest Records

By Ben Kingsley

In 1983, the Indiana Access to Public Records Act was passed and implemented in the state. This particular act mandates the local government of the state to allow its local residents the freedom to access their personal files which includes the Indiana Public Arrest Records. The Department of Public Safety in the state is the one responsible for keeping track of such documents.

Residents of Indiana would request for a copy of an arrest record to conduct a background check. It is one of the major sources of information when checking on the criminal history of an individual. Such background check is done by employers. The criminal history of their people is checked to ensure that they have people who can be trusted. This is done regularly to prevent mishaps within the company.

A public arrest record in the state of Indiana would focus primarily on information pertaining to the arrest of an individual. Details such as the crimes that the individual has been convicted are the highlight of the document. One would know when and where the incident took place and how the arrest was conducted. The document would also contain the personal details of the involved individual such as the real name and other names used by the person. A public document would also contain information about the appearance of the arrested individual.

Requesting for a copy of an Indiana arrest record would require a processing fee to be paid. Depending on the type of request made, the cost can vary. To proceed with the search, one has to know the basic details of the document of interest since it will be used to conduct the search. Although the document is considered as a public file, access to the document is still limited to the person on the file. When a need to access the records of other people, one may need to secure a court order to do so. It is also important that the one who filed the request provide their personal information to proceed with the request.

The Department of Public Safety in Indiana is where the state manages the arrest records of its people. One needs to go to this office to obtain a copy of the said file. The county office can also provide the arrest record, only if the incident took place within the county's area of responsibility. The search can be done by personally going to the office or be sending the request via mail. Unfortunately, mail requests can take a while and is not the fastest method there is.

If waiting is not an option, requesting for the state's police records can be done online. The results of the search can be obtained in just seconds instead of hours, days or even weeks. Because there is no need to go to any office, residents of Indiana can save time and their energy in the process.
