Problems With Public Education That Are Derailing Literacy

Numerous studies have been done to identify avenues of offering better school life. Getting to know the problems with public education becomes an important aspect so as to ensure loop holes to well-educated citizens are fixed. A method that can be used to tackle the hitch is getting to identify the obstacle and coming with solutions.

A study conducted recently suggests that poverty, which is a historical obstacle, continues to act as hindrance up to the modern society. Education was provided to working class in the past while the poor individuals remained uneducated. Education is today offered to all irrespective of a person social status and everyone is expected to graduate. A novel paradigm shift is shown by the increased poverty levels compounded with the shift in education. This requires policies which are fresh to address reality.

In the beginning of the century, student that were entitled to reduced-price or free meals constituted to about half of student structure in four states. In just a decade later, more than half of student in public school are living in poverty in 17 states. This century has seen a sharp increase of unemployed parents with jobs that cannot cater for basic goods and education.

Testing of scores has been crowded out in arts subjects such as music and drama which produce the unique skills of a student and also cultivating a love for learning. The schools in poverty levels have found math challenging and has frustrated teachers and put the student at a greater disadvantage relative to their peers. Standardization on the other hand has made it difficult to mold lessons to the unique social culture.

Sidelining of the physical educations and recess has in turn posed a challenge to the well-being of students. This is because these two enhance the student capacity to focus and learn while on the other hand ensuring that the health of the student is healthy as it combats calamities such obesity and other lifestyle diseases.

The disparity between schools in rich regions and those from deprived regions is very wide. Those from deprived areas have larger class sizes, non-motivated staff and obsolete teaching equipment among various vices. On the other hand, schools in affluent regions are equipped with good medical attention, modern learning models, libraries that are well stocked among others. This makes the public education to appear totally unequal.

Parent involvement and way of life in homes help in predicting the achievements of a learner. Some guardians are very much involved in their children whereabouts while others do not seem to care. The need for active involvement acts as a sensible step since home encouragement lead to good performance at school.

Though tackling conflict is a maturation process in a child, exposure to harassment and violence can lead to wanting performance at schools and can lead to development of anti-social character as well as anxiety as the child matures. Early childhood education needs to integrate violence reduction as well as conflict mediation.

The education system continues to be very vital for the country because it is through it that we future professionals are molded. It is thus important to safeguard this system by solving the numerous glitches that is facing in order to ensure that it remains relevant.
