Become The Best School With Classroom Walkthroughs

By Gwen Lowe

Leading an educational organization is noble yet taxing task. There are factors, aspects, and angles that you must understand to effectively administer your academy. One of the main determinants of a properly managed school can be observed on the student, teacher, and staff performance. These elements are all interlocked with each other that if one part should suffer, the rest of the connected chains will also go the same route.

In the past decades, principals and leaders would evaluate their teachers depending on one evaluation alone. Good thing, scholars found that this unhealthy for the development of the academy and could be subjectively harsh for educators. With this discovery, they formulated a modern thinking that would prevent this and they call this as classroom walkthroughs.

Walkthroughs are short visits executed by administrators for overall observation and development. Usually, a group of school leaders including principals would go inside classrooms to observe and gather data for improvements. Instead of scrutinizing one educator, they would observe different classes in short minutes to gather data which would be helpful in debriefing.

These topics will then be agreed upon the administrators of which have to be disclosed to the educators. In addition, these can be coming from the observations and generalizations gathered by the visitors who have been assigned on a specific aspect to observe. Many of these aspects could include student comprehension, classroom materials, to the simplest writing on the chalkboard.

This will then give school administrators the idea on where to improve on based on general observation and not based on the lapses of a particular teacher or a particular student. That is why instead of changing things based on a single class, they can improve the overall academy structure to benefit the numbers. This was found effective by many scholars and researchers in improving student performance.

In addition, leaders have firsthand experiences of the advantage of everyday walkthroughs. Firstly, they shared that it is now easy for them to familiarize academy curriculum and to understand teaching practices of mentors. It has been also easy for them to measure student receptiveness and the academy climate. As well as the how the educators are catching on students.

In addition, they have observed that teamwork among heads and teachers in implementing, creating, and identifying effective instructions is also increasing. Due to this fact, teachers learned from their leaders on how to teach students effectively and vice versa. Students on the other hand have noticed the effort done and were said to be inspired from their positive behavior.

On the one hand, various methods of walking through have been discovered by scholars. In your behalf as a school head, it is your discretion to tell the team whether to follow proven methods or to create one that would tailor your school needs. If you have to make a walk through at the closest time, then using proven methods would be advised by experts.

All in all, if you do the best with all the pure intentions, the school can maximize the learning potential of your students. Once you did this, you will feel the fulfillment and joy of knowing you orchestrated such development. Remember always, with force there is unity and with force change is possible.
