Business Security Suggestions For The New Business Owner

By Mark Mahaffey

Are you a new business owner? If so, then you are probably very excited about your new endeavor. You have surely worked hard to get to the place where you are right now. However, do not overlook the critical issue of security in your new business. The threat of crime is persistent - you cannot get away from it.

Happily, you can do several things to keep yourself safe from crime. You just need to follow a few suggestions. For example, think about your employees. You could be losing money if they are stealing from you! It is important to create a policy and procedure manual so that they know what kind of behavior you expect from them and what the consequences for crime are.

You can also increase your business security by making it a habit to shred the sensitive papers in your office. You do not want these notes to fall into criminal hands, so make a shredding appointment several times a month to take care of these documents.

Access control is another area to consider when planning your business security. If you have several employees, it is unlikely that each of them should have equal access to all of your sensitive areas, such as filing cabinets, offices and computers. Use access control to restrict access to these areas.

Security lighting is another aspect of excellent business security, although there is a good chance that you may have not thought about this. Criminals often prefer work do their mischief when it is dark outside, because there is less of a chance that they will get caught. And they often prefer to enter buildings that have poor lighting. You can protect yourself by installing plenty of good security lighting around your building.

In addition, it is a good idea to install a security system. If you connect it to a monitoring company, you can rest assured that you will be alerted if anyone tries to break into your building day or night..
