An Assessment Of Classroom Walkthroughs

By Marci Glover

The performance of a teacher in a classroom can be gauged through several approaches. If the teaching is done on a daily basis, then daily supervision of the learning process is very important. Some aspects of delivery of academic material and the dissemination of information in a class are evaluated. The daily clinical supervision is also critical where daily step-wise teaching has to be done. However, there are a number of shortcomings associated with clinical supervisions. In most cases, the supervisors tend to overlook special aspects of a teaching career such the development of the teacher-student relationship and the development of a career.

classroom walkthroughs help in delivery of academic and related materials. This is very important especially where the teacher is always in direct contact with the students. In addition to the simple delivery approaches, professional development is added to other concepts. Strong indicators of general performance are critical in fusing the two approaches. A special platform of initiating dialog has to be integrated in the learning process. The dialog platform increases the active participation by the learners. Delivery systems are boosted as a process. This means that the assimilation of information is also boosted.

The process of teaching and learning can be boosted in a number of ways. The use of instructional leadership in learning is very critical in the overall improvement of teaching and the dissemination of information in a classroom. The implementation of such systems within a learning environment is very critical for learning. The systems must be put in place for continuous improvement of learning process.

The teachers and learners can boost the process of learning and dissemination of information through active planning. Problems that the learners face during the learning process are highlighted. This happens during the process of problem identification. The process is followed by an active session of solution finding. A plan of how to solve these problems is then drafted. The implementation schedule follows the drafting process.

There are several parts to the walkthrough approach. The model consists of a number of visits made to the classes while the lessons and learning is ongoing. The observers use these visits as way of gauging some aspects of teaching and overall learning. Specific level of active participation is evaluated by assessing how a supervisor interacts with their students. Specific practices such as asking of questions point towards better delivery of information.

A learning walk furthers the use of a classroom walkthrough. The approach works on increasing on the ability of the students to handle more. This is worked by the process of increasing their concentration span. Instructions are issued at each stage of the walk. In most cases, as the learning abilities increases, more instructions are issued to increase the ability to handle more content.

Interaction between students and their supervisors increase the level of activism within the learning environment. As students get to interact with others, they learn more and more from their friends. They also learn the best ways of airing their views during discussions. As a result of more interactions, their social circles are enlarged as they make more friends.

Other tools can be incorporated in the process of learning. Technology has eased the process of dissemination of information. Handheld devices can be used in the process of teaching. With such devices the students are introduced to various technological aspects. This makes learning more interesting.
